Dear Teenagers and Parents –
We
just had our first fellowship event of the year at Blakehaven and we had a
blast! Our afternoon on Big Lake was hot, sunny, and breezy. We frolicked in the
pool, played silly “Uth” games, ate and drank all kinds of goodies. Our time
concluded with a short communion service (and totally insightful talk by Father
Jack) at the newly renovated Chapel of the Holy Spirit. Many of us had never
been to this chapel but now that we know it’s there we might have to attend
services there next summer or just stop in for a pit stop and get recharged with
the Lord.
Please
note the schedule of events for the rest of the year. Contact us and get on
board! We are really serious about being an inclusive
“Uth” Group - we want kids from every school and every church! No
cliques allowed!
A word to the parents: The “secret ingredient” to our
“Recipe of “Uth” Group Success” is MPI - Multiple Parental Involvement.
The more of us that participate by hanging out, visiting with each other,
eating, and in general helping and interacting – the easier it is for those of
us leading the charge and the better the overall event becomes. It is not simply
Youth Fellowship… it’s more like Intergenerational Fellowship. So please,
don’t just drop your young person off, get your kid and come to our next event with them.
Together
we are Better!
Good Shepherd strives to be a safe and nurturing place where children and youth find a welcoming community. It is here among their friends that they are introduced to the strength and responsibilities of Christian community, and that they find a place where they can begin to ask the questions that matter.
The
congregation's nurturing and making a place for the youngest among us begins
with gentle child care. From there, youngsters
take the initial steps of their journey in faith via our Christian
education program.
Teen-agers find a sanctuary in which to explore spirituality and ethics as they begin to take ownership in their faith and become leaders in the community. They do this through the two youth groups that gather at Good Shepherd — one for junior high and one for senior high. Many also find a sense of belonging through participating in the worship life of the parish.
There are opportunities for spiritual growth beyond Good Shepherd as well — in the diocesan summer camping program and regional and national youth events like JEYL, CLEY and PYE.
