Good Shepherd youth have the opportunity to attend diocesan, regional and national youth events in the greater Episcopal Church.

Our youth take part in a number of retreats and events at Camp Hardtner with others their age from around the Diocese of Western Louisiana. Activities throughout the year include:

New Beginnings

New Beginnings is a retreat-weekend experience specially formulated to respond to the issues and concerns of teenagers in grades 7, 8 and 9. The big difference between the New Beginnings weekend and other retreat experiences is that there must be one adult sponsor for every five participants from a church who serve as support persons to the Family Group Leaders and participate in small group discussions held during the weekend. New Beginnings will be offered February 16-18.

JEYL

JEYL is a retreat weekend for middle school students, usually scheduled for November and is attended by students from all parts of the diocese. The next JEYL will be offered in November.

CLEY

CLEY is a high school retreat weekend staged by the Diocesan Youth Commission and staffed by high school and college-age youth and adults. Each weekend is a blend of worship, instruction, music, and fun that teaches the tenets of the faith. CLEY is scheduled for March 2-4.

Happening

Happening is a Christian renewal experience designed for high school youth that is held in virtually every diocese in the Episcopal Church. The next Happening in Diocese of Western Louisiana will be held at the Hardtner Camp & Conference Center the weekend of January 26-28.

Other possibilities for youth involvement on the regional and national levels include
the Provincial Youth Event (PYE), set for the summer of 2001, and the National Episcopal Youth Event (EYE), in the summer of 2002.
