MESSAGE FROM OUR CONGREGATION

A Message from our Congregation

Good Shepherd is the oldest Episcopal Community in the greater Lake Charles area. We are the "Mother Church" for each of the other parishes in the Lake Charles Convocation. As such, we have a long history in Lake Charles, and our Church is listed on the National Registry of Historical Buildings. we are located in the Northern-central area of the city; but our congregation comes from all around. We have members who live near the Texas line, northward into Beauregard Parish, and south almost to the Cameron line. We also have members who travel from the far eastern side of Calcasieu Parish. Therefore, Good Shepherd has a wonderful mix of folks who love the Episcopal liturgy, and all the Episcopal Church holds dear.

Our congregation is very active within the community, and we are serious about mission work and outreach; to which we dedicate our time, talent, and treasure. We believe in local and foreign missions and maintain active ministries in both areas. But we also enjoy opportunities to play, pray, and enjoy time together; so, we celebrate with a Summer Music Festival, Vacation Bible School, A Fall Festival and Chili supper, baby showers, and other milestones that mark our parishioners lives and the life of our parish. On Pentecost Sunday we host an annual BBQ. Beginning with Easter, we have an outdoor service at the lovely outdoor chapel of the Holy Spirit in Big Lake Louisiana located in Cameron Parish. Our chapel is nestled on a pond and is a very casual setting with liturgy to match. This service is an opportunity to just enjoy the beauty of the outdoors as we worship. The Chapel is opened through the July 4th weekend, then closes for the hottest part of the summer; but we reopen the end of September for the fall season until Advent begins. Keep in mind you are in southwest Louisiana when you join us at the Chapel of the Holy Spirit. We welcome your visit to any and all of our events, we welcome your participation, and we welcome your prayers, and please come just as you are to any of our services because we are a no judging zone.
